Italy's mandatory energy audit under Legislative Decree 102/2014 hits large companies and energy-intensive businesses, with a new 10 TJ/year threshold and an October 11, 2026 deadline. Thresholds: 250+ employees with 50 million euro revenue or 43 million euro balance sheet, or 2.4 GWh annual consumption. Non-compliance fines run 4,000 to 40,000 euros. Reports must follow Annex 2 and UNI CEI EN 16247, prepared by an EGE, ESCO, or certified auditor. The Electe Review breaks down who's covered, the four-year cycle, exemptions, and why treating this as a one-time filing costs companies more than the fine.
